Beer Selection as at September 2008

bitter

$6.00 Best Bitter (4.5% ABV)

The most common reaction to our Best Bitter is "how 'British' is this!!". Well, you be the judge! Enrico has crafted a truly authentic, traditional Best Bitter, brewed with Pale Ale malt, Crystal malt and special hops, and fermented with a true Ale yeast. Deeply copper-coloured, it has all the hallmarks of a classic Best Bitter, with intense hop character and lingering bitterness. Green Man Best Bitter is 'the taste of Olde England'.

celt

$6.50 Celt (6.5% ABV)

Pronounced 'Kelt', this is also a blend, with the same Doppelbock and blended with Dark Mild. GOLD MEDAL winner at the September BrewNZ 2008 awards. The Dark Mild, having less hops and bitterness, brings out the voluptuous whisky flavours, and the beer is maltier and darker than the Strong. The inaugural release was brewed for the Dunedin Celtic Arts Festival in October 2007, which sold out in a few short days.

dark bottle small

$5.50 Dark Mild (3.5% ABV)

Rich in body and sweetness with delicate bitterness and aroma. The gently roasted, coffee-chocolate flavours of the 4-malt blend are deliciously balanced with the fruity, citrus characteristics of the Cascade hop. A superb example of this rare style, popular in the early-mid 20th Century, particularly in the North and Midlands of England, as the beer of choice for many manual workers looking to quench their thirsts after a hard days graft at t'mill or down t'pit... This style is undergoing a revival among 'real ale' producers in the UK, thanks partly to CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale).

enrico's cure

$ 30.00 Enrico's Cure (14.6% ABV)

Our latest Limited Release won the BEST OF CLASS in the September BrewNZ 2008 Awards (Experimental and non or low alcoholic beers). We understand this beer, brewed by our German Brewmaster, Enrico (of course...), to be NZ's STRONGEST BEER, and probable the WORLD'S STRONGEST ORGANIC BEER.
Similar to a Barley Wine style, brewed with no ADDED sugar, crafted according to the German Purity Law of 1516, fermented with a Champagne yeast. A true beer with flavours that will keep you coming back for more.

keller

$6.00 Keller (4.8% ABV)

Keller is a very rare style in New Zealand. It is a lusciously rich Lager which is really quite simple to make because it is what we don't do that makes it so full of flavour. We don't filter it and we leave it for up to two months before bottling. A Keller beer will often appear cloudy due to the sediment (which is full of organic vitamins). Pour this beer straight from the fridge, cold from the bottle into a large glass. SILVER MEDAL winner at the NZ International Beer Awards in June 2008.

lager

$6.00 Lager (4.8% ABV)

The inaugural brew from Dunedin's newest, and only organic, brewery. This German-style Lager is crafted by our German Brewmaster according to the German Purity Law of 1516, using only the finest quality organic ingredients. Crisp and refreshing, it has delicate citrus and floral flavours from the Hallertau hop, which is balanced by the sweet, juicy Pilsner malt. This beer won a BRONZE MEDAL at BrewNZ 2005.

pils

$6.50 Premium Pils (5.4% ABV)

Authentic European-style Premium Pilsner. True to this style, it is lavished with buckets of hops in refreshing harmony with plentiful malt. This is the finest beer from our German Brewmaster.

stout

$7.00 Stout (7% ABV)

A style known as 'Extra Stout', this is an over-strength black ale with rich, mouth-filling, coffee & mocha flavours, and malty aromas from the addition of four German malts. As the label says, 'it's Dark BLACK'... and it's powerful too... The accolades and positive feedback this Stout has received, particularly from drinkers of the world's most famous Stout, has us bursting with pride.

strong

$6.50 Strong (6.5% ABV))

Awarded 'Editors Choice' in the #1 beer mag in the UK, Beers of the World. This is a blend of 2 beers; a Doppelbock was matured on whisky barrel wood for 2 months then blended with Best Bitter, resulting in an amazingly complex beer with delightful whisky, vanilla and oak flavours and aromas. Finishes with very approachable hop and whisky notes. BRONZE MEDAL winner at the NZ International Beer Awards June 2008.

wheat

$6.00 Wheat Beer (5.2% ABV)

An effervescent, fruity Bavarian-style beer traditionally crafted by our own German Brewmaster, Enrico Gritzner. It's a typically cloudy and refreshing Wheat Beer, and is very popular in Europe over summer. Delicious banana and clove aromas and flavours leap from the glass. Pour gently into an over-sized glass, to give a huge head, then if you want it cloudy, swirl the yeast and pour in.

whiskey bock

$9.00 330ml, Whisky Bock (8.5% ABV)

The 'Mother of all beers'? Well, not quite, but it IS the 'mother' of our Strong and Celt... This is the un-blended beer, and is the FIRST in our new 'White Label' series of beers. BRONZE MEDAL winner at the NZ International Beer Awards June 2008.
